IDS-WEST: A LESSON TO BE LEARNED

THIS WEEKEND Tiff and I hit up the Interior Design Show West in Vancouver. Between discovering and stumbling upon a ton of really cool stuff (everything from neat jewellery to cool wall panelling) we managed to catch Suzanne Dimma & Mark Challen (Canadian House & Home) giving a talk on “finding your style”. One thing Mark said couldn’t have come at a better time for me:

You see – I’ve been searching high and low for a bookshelf to go beside my bed for quite some time now. Not having something there was driving me nuts but I couldn’t seem to settle on a style or colour. I’d been from furniture store to Pinterest and back again a bazillion times before I found what I thought was the perfect piece (and piece of inspiration).

As it turns out the Bookshelf is working in my room but I’m not totally in love with it just yet. I’m not sure if it’s the colour (I really thought I could make gold work in a silver/grey/neutral room) or the style of it but something is off and it’s bothering me.

However, I decided that:
1. I’m glad I finally just bought something rather than not having anything at all
2. I’m not going to get every project right the first time around and as far as I’m concerned it was worth the $50 (a steal! right?) — plus I can always just paint it again.
3. I’m going to sit with it for a little while longer before I make any drastic changes (re: paint it).
